Sri Aurobindo (Aurobindo Ghose); (15 August 1872 – 5 December 1950) was an Indian philosopher, yogi, maharishi, poet and Indian nationalist. Also he was a journalist, editing newspapers such as Vande Mataram. He joined the Indian movement for Independence from British colonial rule. He started writing poetry as a young student. Here are some Sri Aurobindo Poetries for you.

The theme of Sri Aurobindo poetries changed with the projects that he undertook. It ranged from revolutionary homages to mystic philosophy. Further the central theme of his works is a “life divine”. In his own words: “Man is a transitional being. The step from man to superman is the next approaching achievement in the earth evolution. It is inevitable because it is at once the intention of the inner spirit and the logic of Nature’s process”. One can see the major elements of his poetry in the purely mystical intuition, the power of mystical expression characterized by the effective use of symbolism and a vast area of knowledge.

He stands for the voice of a poet, and also a mystic in the today’s modern chaotic world. Sri Aurobindo’s poetry always aims to bridge the present and the future. His poetry tries to connect the link between the self-divided “Present Life” and the “Divine Life”. Hence his poetry can be found having a divine touch of mysticism.

Sri Aurobindo Poetries
Indian Poets and Poetries

Arisen to voiceless unattainable peaks
I meet no end, for all is boundless He,
An absolute Joy the wide-winged spirit seeks,
A Might, a Presence, an Eternity.

Sri Aurobindo Poetries

In the inconscient dreadful dumb Abyss
Are heard the heart-beats of the Infinite.
The insensible midnight veils His trance of bliss,
A fathomless sealed astonishment of Light.

Poetries and Writeups

In His ray that dazzles our vision everywhere,
Our half-closed eyes seek fragments of the One:
Only the eyes of Immortality dare
To look unblinded on that living Sun.

Sri Aurobindo Poetries

Yet are our souls the Immortal’s selves within,
Comrades and powers and children of the Unseen.
