Rupi Kaur (born 4 October,1992) is a Canadian poet, illustrator, photographer, and author. Born in Punjab, India, Kaur emigrated to Canada with her family. She began performing poetry in 2009 and rose to fame on Instagram, eventually becoming a popular poet through her three collections of poetry –  Milk and Honey (2014), The Sun and Her Flowers (2017) and Home Body (2020). We’ve collected 5 of our favorites from the numerous famous poems of Rupi Kaur. These collections have sold over 8 million copies and have been translated into over 42 languages.

Rupi Kaur is known as one of the OG instapoets. Everyone knows her name, even people who don’t follow her. Her bold, honest, and powerful messages are as important as ever today. Even though we see her poems are all over the internet, they still pack a punch. Some are like the emotional version of a hammer to the gut. And, sometimes, you just need a bit of that in your life.

Further her work touches on love, loss, trauma, healing, feminity, and migration. At the core of her work is human dignity. Also she lets that flow through her pieces in an uplifting, but honest manner. Thus she has a unique perspective on how to make the world a better, kinder place.

Poems and Writeups

I do not want to have you

To fill the empty parts of me

I want to be full on my own

I want to be so complete

I could light a whole city

And then

I want to have you

Cause the two of us combined

Could set it on fire

when it is wanted

it is neither wanted

nor needed

what is stronger

than the human heart

which shatters over and over

and still lives

Famous Poems of Rupi Kaur

to hate

is an easy lazy thing

but to love

takes strength

but not all are

willing to practice

Famous Poems of Rupi Kaur

i know i

should crumble

for better reasons

but have you seen

that boy

he brings

the sun

to it knees

every night
